Training

The first HIC training was carried out in February 2002.  It was the first time that OCHA Information Management professionals working in HICs were brought together to discuss principles and processes of information management in the context of OCHA mandate for coordination, advocacy and policy within a humanitarian context.  Following the tsunami and earthquakes in South East Asia in December 2004, a condensed training was held in Sri Lanka which brought together staff from both HIC Sri Lanka and HIC Sumatra to familiarize staff to the HIC concept and discuss context specific information management in both countries.

The first Field Information Management training was held in Nairobi, Kenya in May 2004, as part of OCHA's Field Information Management Strategy. In January 2006, another FIM training was held that brought together the newly recruited Information Management Officers (IMO's) to look in depth at the role of the IMO in an OCHA field office and the processes of mainstreaming IM into OCHAs activities.
