HIC Stakeholders Consultation
Palais des Nations - Geneva, Switzerland
10 - 11 September 2007

The 65th Inter-Agency Standing Committee Working Group (IASC-WG), which was held in July 2006, endorsed a series of recommendations aimed at improving information management in support of humanitarian coordination and decision-making. Among these recommendations was the redefinition of the role and function of the Humanitarian Information Centre (HIC) on the basis of the results of a system-wide stock-taking exercise.

As a complement to this exercise, OCHA convened a two-day stakeholder consultation in Geneva to enable a community-wide dialogue among HIC users on its role and function. Among other topics, the consultation addressed the HIC’s role as a Humanitarian Common Service, its role in supporting information management in the Cluster approach and its priority products and services.

Because of the HIC’s status as a Humanitarian Common Service, it was important to ensure this dialogue be carried out among a wide representation of its stakeholders. Consultation invitees included representatives of the IASC-WG (including Cluster Lead agencies and OCHA), donors, NGOs, other Humanitarian Common Services and Humanitarian Coordinators.

This meeting was held at the Palais des Nations in Room XI (3rd Floor, Door 17) on Monday, 10 and Tuesday, 11 September 2007.
